With up to 4 cm length, the shells can jam the feeding funnel. For this, original sample material can be pre crushed with a hammer inside a plastic bag. In our case, we used the Jaw Crusher PULVERISETTE 1 Model I with steel jaws to pre crush the complete sample to < 4 mm with gap position 1:0.
It should be possible to feed particles with a maximum length of up to 2 cm without a jamming of the feeding funnel (so even bigger gap positions like e.g. 2.0 or 2.5 should be suitable for pre crushing).
After pre crushing, the complete sample amount has been ground within 2 minutes. Ground particles will be comminuted to < 0,1 mm in one dimension. Still longer particles (up to 0,3 mm length) can be found afterwards.
Still higher amounts of sample can be ground this way.
There is no sticking of sample to the grinding chamber or the grinding disks. Only electrostatic charged sample can be found inside the grinding chamber. The grinding chamber can be cleaned rapidly by vacuuming with a soft brush.
